Rape Culture: Sexual Violence on a Spectrum

CC's 预防 Approach

Colorado College takes a comprehensive approach to sexual violence prevention. Sexual violence encompasses a continuum of behaviors such as harassment, unwanted touching, sexual coercion, 和强奸. Primary prevention - preventing violence before it occurs - requires a shift in culture 和 campus climate where all these types of behaviors are unacceptable 和 not the norm.

CC uses the socio-ecological model to demonstrate the connection between individual, relationship, 社区, 和 societal factors that contribute to or protect against sexual violence. Comprehensive prevention must address all these levels, emphasizing incorporating 倡议 that complement 和 reinforce each other at the relationship, 社区, 和 societal levels. Changes at these stages have the potential for more widespread 和 sustainable impact on a college campus than 倡议 that only focus on the individual level of violence prevention.

最后, our comprehensive approach to prevention also ensures that our primary prevention strategies at each level complement secondary 和 tertiary prevention strategies that address the needs of survivors immediately following an assault 和 long-term follow up 和 support for healing.

This programming is for everyone: we all have a stake in ending sexual 和 gender-based violence, 和 in creating a campus culture in which everyone engages in healthy sexuality 和 relationships. Below you'll find a brief overview of our sexual health 和 violence prevention programs:
